[Preview] 36 hours of Road Trip

It was mere 36 hours road trip to the North of Peninsular but we've managed to fill our tummies to the fullest, created yet another good memory to be remembered and a farewell trip to Michelle who will be off to Sheep-land in about three weeks time. :')

We made our way to Kedai Kopi Kong Heng for lunch upon reaching Ipoh.
Chicken and Pork satay - RM0.80 per stick
And that's what we've gotten for lunch as a side dish: Chicken (left) and Pork (right) satay - cannot be differentiated by colour. The meat was tender and fresh although, the sticks used weren't. o_o

Will put up a proper blog post about the 36 hours trip soon - once I get all my pictures sorted out. =)

"Reverse" Gear Blunder

If you have stalked me on Facebook, you would know this story already but I'm still going to pen it down in my blog for future reference. Haha!
That is how much everyone likes it when I do stupid stuff lol

So, I was in the new mall, Paradigm Mall, today with Sze Lynn and Ben. After the short shopping we have had in Padini (I tried very hard to resist myself! But Sze Lynn and her mum brought me over to the evil side!), we sat in Starbucks trying to study for a bit.

Halfway through, I remembered about today being my mum's birthday (bad kid) and having to know that Body Shop at the mall was having some discount sale thingy, I made my way over there at 6.00pm to buy a present for my mum.

Bought it, and know if I did not make a move at 6.10pm, I would have been late for the media launch of Samsung Galaxy SIII at One Utama. Half ran to the car, only to find that my car couldn't start!

PANICKED! And started cursing the car, my luck and just about everything I can see. Really thought the battery died because, it's about to die and I have yet to service the dear old car.

So yeah, the basement was stupid enough to not have any cell phone receptions so I had to go back up to get Ben's help. While waiting for him in the concourse, I tweeted:
Written in haste, hence spell also wrong.
Only to have my friends comment something like:
Your car cannot start still can remember to tweet??!?!
While waiting mar. Ben walk so slow! HAHAHA!

Anyhow, he came down and we took the lift down to the car (all the while with me cursing my luck at the side).

He went into the car and just one turn of the keys, HE STARTED THE CAR!! I really thought he was this super angel or maybe Ben 10 that saved my day. lol

I stood there stunned and asked him, "But just now cannot wo. How did you do that?"

He looks at me with the o.o face and told me "Er..The gear was on reverse." (I didn't get him until 10 seconds later). He then said bye bye to me and gave me the -___________- face while walking away.

I am so doink!

Anyway, Samsung S3 is like so awesome!
The features that they have presented to just wow-ed me - I am no tech person. So it was really wow-ing. I now just need the money - like everyone else =D

Like the Rain

Drastic hormonal change that has nothing to do with PMS or whatsoever. The moment I hit the beds, I just felt like crying for whatever reasons there are and I just did.

Just like that.

For all that its worth. A night of emotional breakdown all alone.

The Journey and NOT the Destination

At any point of your life, there is sure to be someone or something that might be that catalyst in any decisions you make in life.

I ended up liking accounting because of a teacher's influence. And hence, the sole reason why I made a decision to pick up an accounting degree in the first place.
But soon after, once I'm in this degree programme, my 'like and love' for accounting is slowly deteriorating. There just isn't any more motivation to go on by just looking at the amount of things that I know and understand at this point of time. Demotivating much. :(

There's also a point when I was influenced by my college friend, Andrea, to open up a Facebook account after much protest from my side. I really liked Friendster those days - before everyone migrated to Facebook.

I still remember the first time when I sign up into Facebook was at the college's computer lab where Andrea guided me in the sign up. Remembered that I couldn't seem to sign up at home because they prompted some school information which I couldn't seem to get through.

All in all, someone will be there to motivate you, to push you. Or maybe I am just too reliant on people's view :| Not a good thing really because it leaves me indecisive most of the time. Breaking out of your comfort zone is the thing that might just push you to do something different, make a difference in your life.
Time is all it takes and time is all you have. Mix with the right crowd and it'll get you going.

Had a really good night with a good crowd. Makes me realised that something that have been put up unintentionally, had turned out to be really really good. It might have been all a push for the wrong reason but it turned out to be a really great experience. Toasting for the year that we've had tonight have made me realised that it's quite sad to step down as part of the team for the bond that we've created but it's definitely good to know we have put our heart into it and make a change for the better. A starting point for change. It's definitely the journey and not the destination. :')

A special dedication to the people that matters :)

Mother's Day at Capricciosa, Sunway Pyramid

Celebrated Mother's day a day before at Sunway Pyramid, after a walk through Grad Malaysia's career fair which I have seen employers demanding for people with CGPA 3.5 and above, again.

Sad things aside, we have made our way to Capricciosa, Sunway Pyramid. My second visit there after Nicholas brought me and another friend there for dinner several days before and I immediately fell for their pizzas.

They had a Mother's Day special: MUMs EAT FREE with any purchase of two main entrees, which was quite a really good deal.

Since only the two of us were there to celebrate Mother's day, having 3 meals were just too taxing! So instead, we took the other Weekend Deal: Pizza @ RM15.90 only. And that also means that I got to have the Quattro Farmaggi again! :P
A pizza filled with four different type of cheese topping. Not a very good differentiator of cheese, but those who loves cheese would definitely love this. Though, I have had my mum say that it'll be boring if it's consumed too much. I still personally like it though because the crust here at Capricciosa isn't too thick or thin, just nice for my liking and because it's filled with cheese (fattening pfft!)!

And as for our second choice of pizza, we order another chef recommendation of theirs: Cappricciosa.
Filled with beef pepperoni, beef bacon, mushrooms and bell peppers, this was one of my mum's favourite. You can just taste everything on it and in addition to that, they have prepared it fresh from the oven - that includes the preparation of the crust itself. Know this because they prepare their pizzas in a small room with windows right at the entrance of the restaurant.

Also, in conjunction with mother's day, we were also served with free biscuits! :)

Drinks here are quite worth it because you can order the bottomless drinks at RM6.90 and they allow sharing. Hence, I shared an ice-lemon tea with my mum since I was paying the bill, I'm broke and hey! Sharing is caring right? Tee hee!

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

Now that MUMs EAT FREE is over, there's still the Weekdays Express Value Lunch at RM9.90 which I might be going for lunch if we have an extended lunch break. If not, there'll be a DADs EAT FREE special on father's day - again, saw this on the brochure in the restaurant the other day.

Awesome stuff.

On another note this is another dish I've tried the other day: Fresh Fettuccine with Calamari and Onions in Squid Ink Sauce
Really messy stuff because you'll get your mouth and teeth filled with black squid ink sauce. Really distracting because I could not laugh or talk whenever that happens just so that they do not take a picture of me. Haha! Though when I was there with Nicholas and Gim Chai for dinner the other day, Nic made me make eat them and not lick the black stuff away just so he could take a picture. haha!

Reality Check

It's true that I have been neglecting this weblog for quite some time. To tell you the truth, things have been really hectic this few weeks back.

You might think that having three days of classes is fun and that I have a lot of time for myself (which is true in a way) but there were a lot of activities that were unintentionally being planned out one after another. Big mistake on our side, a lesson to learn. And having my hard disc and laptop breaking down on me isn't helpful either.

We're well into week seven and the mind is still on a holiday mood. Tidak sedar lagi, until we saw the calender today telling us that "Hey, do you know that you have TWO assignment presentations next week?!"

Enough of that for now, because if I were to write about that, it'll end up filling this whole post. :s

Back to topic: Reality check?

Been to two career fairs the last few weeks. One thing that we, as a third and final year (and semester) finally realised that grades as an accounting and finance student in university are so important that if you don't do well, you might as well start praying (literally what I'm doing now) for someone to hire you once you graduate.

Why?

This is essentially true if you're planning to apply into big corporations or MNCs where the Management Trainee Programme (MT) for fresh graduates is the "in" thing at this point of time. We have walked through booth after booth at the career fair, and what we got in respond is the preferred requirement for applicants is those with CGPA 3.4 and above.

No one really cares that we're all half dying / struggling studying in this course of ours due to the ever demanding course work, knowledge, and just everything. Everyone cares about the end result - the A+ that you'll receive in your result slip.
Found this picture, and realised that it's actually pretty scary. Reminds me of Chucky.

That was really a reality check to a lot of us, especially to those who does not have such grades in hand. There are some HR people who would give you a positive response like "Well, you can just send in your applications and we will put you on K.I.V.. But if your participation in extra curricular activities is good, it'll be a good leverage for you. We do consider that as part of our evaluation."

Or some other which I've encounter:
Them: "CGPA 3.4 is our first priority before we look into other areas."
Me: "Does that mean students who get below that cannot apply for the position?"
Them: "Which is why I'm telling you that we're looking for 3.4 and above."

Only to have me argue with him that it doesn't mean that people with that sort of CGPA is good in everything else including social skills and personality. Tsk.

Yes, that's reality. At the end of the day, your grades are like a super important aspect of life to some / most employers especially if you're aiming to get into big corporations. Well, not only the grades but you have to be an individual who is diverse, all-rounder and basically good in everything.

Note: This is just for me to rant about the experience that I had upon asking the HRs of companies on the requirements that they're looking for in a fresh grad in accounting. That one encounter with one HR who told me that (as per conversation) made me think that if every companies are looking for such graduate, where would the others go?

Though, I would like to also highlight that there are certainly companies which would hire people with average grades (like me), you just have to search for them and tell them why should they hire you - prove it in other sense such as co-curricular activities and good interpersonal skills. After all, it's all down to how you market yourself once you are out there in the working world.

Reality can be cruel.
